Computer to Kids is a student-organized club that meets up weekly at the C2K computer warehouse to refurbish, clean, and distribute computers to students and their families cross San Diego. Starting in January of 2020, our group of students--from Canyon Crest Academy, Torrey Pines High School, and Westview High School--do a variety of work ranging from cleaning keyboards, opening Chromebooks, and swapping hard drives.
Meet every Saturday 1-3:30pm.
Work at a non-profit organization Computer 2 Kids warehouse (8324 Miramar Mall, San Diego CA 92121)
We strive to have a positive impact on our community by providing refurbished computers to financially difficult families at little-to-no cost
We strive to minimize environmental impact by promoting the recycling and reusing of computers and their electrical parts
We strive to educate students on the field of computers while providing opportunities for inspiration and leadership
Since 2020, we have expanded from 2 members to over 30.
Together, we have:
Disassembled over 1,200 computers (desktops/laptops/Chromebooks) including removing hard discs, memories, heat sinks, mother boards, batteries, and etc.
Assembled over 300 computers (desktops/laptops/Chromebooks)
Cleaned & Wrapped over 5,500 power adapters
Cleaned & Wrapped over 3,000 keyboards
Cleaned & Wrapped over 3,000 mice
Cleaned & Boxed over 3,000 headsets
Cleaned & sorted over 1,000 monitors
Our work fulfilled needs from families and schools in under-developed areas. A surge in remote study during the coronavirus pandemic boosted personal computer demands. In order to face these new challenges, C2K worked even harder to make sure students and parents across San Diego a personal computer they could depend on. Without a reliable connection to the internet, connecting to online school and workplaces would be difficult for these families.
Jack Shi
I joined C2K in the Spring of 2020. In my two years of experience, I have met so many new people and tried so many new things. I always look forward to meeting my friends and learning something new every Saturday afternoon.
Arthur Wang
I joined C2K with Jack in early 2020. Since then, I have learned a lot regarding both leadership and computers. My overall experience has been very positive, and I hope to continue learning new things alongside the other members.
Mia Scinta
Hi my name is Mia and I'm a sophomore at CCA. I have been volunteering at C2K since I was ninth grade and enjoy doing the service to help the community. While doing so, I also learn a lot and gain different experiences.
